Fall Free for All 2010/11
Cal Performances opened its 2010/11 Season with the first Fall Free for All, a full day of free performances featuring a diverse line-up of more than 18 individual artists and companies. This video captures some of the sights and sounds of the day. (Length: 4:00; 2010)

Peter Sellars on George Crumb
Director Peter Sellars discusses George Crumb's haunting Civil War song cycle The Winds of Destiny. Part of Ojai North!, Sellars' production features soprano Dawn Upshaw as a soldier returning from Afghanistan, pianist Gilbert Kalish and percussion ensemble red fish blue fish with Steven Schick. The Bay Area premiere June 16 & 18, 2011, is at Zellerbach Playhouse. (2011)

Soprano Jessica Rivera (Part 1)
Soprano Jessica Rivera and composer Mark Grey are collaborated on a new work titled Ātash Sorushān ("Fire Angels") with a librettist Niloufar Talebi. Watch and listen as Rivera in Berkeley and Grey in Vienna talk about the work in a Skype call. The West Coast premiere was given in Berkeley at Hertz Hall April 3, 2011. Ātash Sorushān was co-commissioned by Cal Performances with the world premiere at Carnegie Hall. (Length 2:19; 2010)

Soprano Jessica Rivera (Part 2)
Soprano Jessica Rivera and librettist Niloufar Talebi rehearse the Persian text for Ātash Sorushān ("Fire Angels") a new work set to music by composer Mark Grey. The Britten Project
Lorin Maazel's Castleton Festival Opera company brings its Britten Project to Cal Performances March 24-27, 2011, featuring fully staged performances of Benjamin Brittens chamber operas The Rape of Lucretia and Albert Herring. Watch clips and learn about the productions. (Length 2:00; 2010)
