A superstar in her native Spain with a growing international reputation, vocalist Estrella Morente is part of a true flamenco dynasty. Her father, uncles, and grandfather were all famed musicians, and Morente has been celebrated at home and abroad for her fresh and beautifully assured approach to flamenco and popular Spanish songs in the Andalusian tradition. American audiences heard her stirring voice on the soundtrack of Pedro Almodóvar's film Volver, but to see her live is a rare treat: Morente's concerts combine the intense rhythms and moody melodies of her homeland with a distinctively modern vocal fire, always accompanied by the world's most dazzling flamenco guitarists.
