April 12, 2015

Three songs from Des Knaben Wunderhorn

Ich will dir singen ein Hohelied

A Shropshire Lad

Four Walt Whitman Songs

Four songs from Who Are These Children?, Op. 84

Bostridge, a riveting recitalist, presents an artfully curated program of songs exploring the music and poetry of the Great War. The program ranges from songs by soldier composers George Butterworth and Ivor Gurney to Britten's setting of poems about children in wartime. "[Bostridge] works to bring out the storytelling and the drama inherent in song. He is capable of singing in many voices at once" (The New Yorker).
