Welcome to the first edition of Cal Performances Campus Connections, in which we plan to share some of the many ways this world-class arts organization engages with life on the UC Berkeley campus. Since arriving here last spring, I have witnessed firsthand how the dynamic exchange of information and ideas between Cal Performances and the university creates a rich, engaging environment and a spirit of discovery that isn’t found anywhere else.
The artists who perform on our stages are inspired by the well informed and adventurous audiences that greet them here on the campus of the world’s greatest public research university—and are inspired by the energy the Berkeley community brings to their performances. We are proud to create a bridge between performers and the campus community, providing resources that range from academic courses with curriculum built around our season offerings to diverse engagement opportunities that allow students to learn from—and in some cases even perform alongside—the greatest artists from all over the world. We look forward to shining the spotlight on how Cal Performances interacts with the faculty, staff, and students of UC Berkeley and we hope you’ll enjoy reading about it.
