Deborah Hay: Figure a Sea

October 22–23, 2016

Overview

Sweden's innovative Cullberg Ballet presents the latest work by pioneering postmodern choreographer Deborah Hay, "...a remarkable and sublime meditative experience" (Dagens Nyheter, Stockholm) set to a shimmering score by Laurie Anderson. In Hay's words, "the 21 dancers and the stage are like a sea of endless possibilities—a place for self-reflection, and seeing oneself see."

Enjoy a rare look deep into the artistic process. For the first half of the program (roughly 45 minutes), Hay herself will offer an intriguing and intimate introduction—including performance elements—to this extraordinary work, guiding the audience through her choreographic journey before the complete work unfolds on the Zellerbach stage.

The US tour is made possible with support by The Embassy of Sweden, Washington, DC, The Swedish Arts Council, and Barbro Osher Pro Suecia Foundation.
