Due to the persistent unhealthy air quality in the Bay Area as a result of the tragic California wildfires, Cal Performances has made the difficult decision to cancel both performances (Friday, November 16, and Saturday, November 17) of Pixel by Compagnie Käfig, as well as the 11am Community Dance Class on Saturday, November 17. Ticket holders will be notified by either phone or email.
We are making every effort to reschedule these performances in the near future and look forward to welcoming this exciting company back to Berkeley at another time.
"A playful and ever-shifting montage of three-dimensional forms—delightful, cloying, surprising all at once."—Herald Sun, Melbourne
Precision, energy, speed, power—Compagnie Käfig merges elements of Brazilian urban dance and capoeira with hip-hop, modern dance, and circus arts in its breakneck productions. Pixel was created by founder Mourad Merzouki in collaboration with the French digital production studio Adrien M & Claire B and features the company's 11 outstanding dancers navigating a sophisticated interactive environment of light and lasers that confounds our perceptions of what is virtual and what is real. "They're animated by waves of energy, as if volts of electricity were traveling from muscle to muscle and limb to limb. Then that tightly controlled power explodes into fireworks" (Times Union, Albany, NY).
Approximate run time: 70 minutes, no intermission
