Drum Tao
Close to 10 million spectators all across the world have flocked to witness the extraordinary performances of Drum Tao, featuring the thundering and massive traditional Japanese instruments known as taiko, or wadaiko, drums.
In 2016, the company’s Off-Broadway shows in New York were completely sold out and an article in Newsweek stated, “The highly acclaimed debut of Drum Tao on Broadway will represent not only Japanese entertainment but Japan itself.”
In 2017, the long-running production Mangekyo launched in Tokyo and ended up being performed more than 500 times over the next year.
And in 2020, Drum Tao opened its new spectacular permanent outdoor theater, TAO no Oka, located among the magnificent views in the heart of Japan’s Aso-Kuju National Park.
Drum Tao has received the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Award, the Japan Tourism Agency Commissioner’s Award, the Outstanding Cultural Achievement Award from Oita Prefecture, and the Taketa City Cultural Creation Award.
In 2023 alone, the three Drum Tao touring groups gave more than 600 performances in Japan and all over the world.
