Dance at Cal Performances

International in scope and wildly inclusive in its breadth of artistic approaches, Cal Performances’ dance series features iconic companies and fresh new voices, representing dance traditions from Spanish flamenco and Argentine tango to classical ballet, tap, hip-hop, and contemporary dance; to folkloric dance traditions from Hawaii, Japan, Cuba, Mexico and beyond. Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and Mark Morris Dance Group visit each season, continuing decades-long Cal Performances relationships with classic repertory and new works; and other renowned companies like Chicago’s Joffrey Ballet, Netherlands Dans Theater, the Bolshoi Ballet, the Kirov (now Mariinsky) Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance, Sasha Waltz & Guests, Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, and Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan have also appeared at Zellerbach Hall regularly. The series has also featured the work of dance luminaries Twyla Tharp, Deborah Hay, Bill T. Jones, William Forsythe, Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham, Rennie Harris, Lucinda Childs, Trey McIntyre, Donald Byrd, and Trisha Brown.

The 2021/22 season welcomes back The Joffrey Ballet, Dorrance Dance, Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, and Eifman Ballet, and features the debuts of Ballet Hispánico, Caleb Teicher & Company, and jookin’ star Lil Buck.
