The Times Are Racing (West Coast Premiere; music: Dan Deacon)
The incomparable Joffrey Ballet continues its six-year Berkeley residency, returning with a program of West Coast, California, and Bay Area premieres. Nicolas Blanc's Beyond the Shore was developed on the Berkeley campus two seasons ago; Christopher Wheeldon's bittersweet and elegant Commedia and Stephanie Martinez's reflective and exuberant Bliss! are both danced to music by Stravinsky; and Justin Peck has set his youthful and vigorous The Times Are Racing to music by Baltimore electronic music wizard Dan Deacon. Blanc has said of his lush work, "One of my goals was to integrate all my sides and moods as a choreographer—to put the entire 'me' on the table." Featuring an electronic score by Mason Bates, Blanc's Beyond the Shore has been hailed as "a deep-sea dive...that reaches out and pulls us back with the tide" (Chicago Tribune).

Approximate run time of this performance is 2 hours and 10 minutes, including two intermissions.
