Watching My Performances
The performances are accessible only through an internet browser. You cannot use Vimeo, YouTube, or other streaming apps/services. To watch on your TV, you must be able to stream, cast, or mirror from your computer or mobile device by running your browser to your television set. There are a variety of ways to do that.
Many newer desktop and laptop MACs and PCs have an HDMI port that you can connect to your TV directly for audio and video. If your device doesn’t have an HDMI port, you can buy the appropriate adaptor- one end of the adaptor plugs into your device and an HDMI cable to the TV plugs into the other end.
- HDMI from Mac, PC, tablet or smartphone to TV – many desktop and laptop MACs and PCs have an HDMI port that you can connect to your TV directly for audio and video. If your device doesn’t have an HDMI port, you can buy the appropriate adaptor that connects an HDMI cable to the TV. Once connected, use your computer browser to access your performances from your Digital Content page of your Cal Performances account.
- AppleTV – “Airplay” from iOS devices or “Mirror” from your MAC browser.
- ChromeCast – “Cast” from the Google Chrome browser on your PC or MAC, or from your iPad or iPhone.
- Android or iOS devices – Watch on your device by logging in to your Cal Performances account then selecting “Digital Content.”
- SmartTVs – We do not have any native SmartTV apps at this time. You can find information on mirroring to your TV at these links – FireOS – RokuTV – AndroidTV
We recommend testing these options well in advance of premiere night so that you ready when the event begins! We are happy to provide some useful tips on how to watch the performances on other devices, however, we are unable to provide any customer service or technical support for TV streaming.
Event access begins on the “premiere date” listed for each event. Premiere dates are shown on the event listing calendar.
No. You can access your performances only by opening a browser on your device, logging in to your Cal Performances account then selecting “Digital Content.”
We require minimum stable download speeds of 500 kbps or faster in order to view our lowest quality, SD 240p. Since bandwidth tends to fluctuate for a number of unforeseen variables, we always recommend you use a dedicated Internet line of 5 Mbps or faster to stream and download high quality videos on the Internet. For optimal performance, a hardwired connection via Ethernet is best, but if you prefer to use WiFi, be sure that your router is configured correctly and that your network is not being shared with other devices (this can limit the starting speeds you pay your ISP for).
Not sure what speeds your device is receiving? Visit https://testmy.net/download (on mobile or desktop) for an estimate. We recommend performing this test a few times since bandwidth can change.
We support playback in browsers that can decode H.264 videos in an HTML5 player. If you’re using an older browser, system, or website, we ask that you upgrade to be able to watch the performances.
- Chrome 30+ (has automatic updates)
- Firefox 27+ (has automatic updates)*
- Internet Explorer 11*
- Microsoft Edge
- Safari 9+
*H.264 video is only supported in Firefox for Windows 7 and later. Firefox versions on Windows XP are not supported.
*Older versions of Internet Explorer (IE 10, 9, 8, etc) that lack support for the TLS 1.2 protocol and HTML5 cannot be used to watch the performances . As of January 12, 2016, Microsoft has stopped releasing updates to older versions of IE.
In addition to the audio controls of your chosen viewing device, there is a volume control button inside the video stream of the concert and is located in the lower right corner of the video frame.
Yes, there is an option to view the video in full screen mode. That option is located in the lower right corner of the video frame. To exit full screen mode at any time, you can press the “Esc” button to return to the main viewing page. We recommend viewing in full screen mode for the best experience. Please note that chat is not available when you are viewing in full screen mode.
Most freezing and buffering issues are caused by the strength, stability, and speed of your internet connection.
First, we suggest that you refresh the page. You may be asked to login to your account again after refreshing. If this doesn’t resolve the issue, check your internet to make sure you’re still connected.
The premiere date is the first opportunity to view the performance. Premiere nights will also include additional activities, such as pre- or post- performance discussions, interviews with artists, etc. The premiere performance also allows for interaction with other viewers via internet chat during the performance.
After the premiere performance, most events will be available as Video On Demand, meaning you can view the full performance, but without all the extra content and audience interaction.
If you are late for the concert’s premiere stream, that is not a problem. If the concert is still in progress from the initial stream when you log in, you will join the performance in progress. You will not be able to rewind to the beginning of the concert. Although you are able to pause during the live stream, it is not recommended as you will not be able to rewind or fast forward.
Most performances will be available for on demand viewing the day following the initial premiere stream, and will be available for 90 days after the premiere date. You can log in and watch any missed portions of the performance, or re-watch your favorite moments at any time during that window.
In most cases, unless otherwise noted, you have 90 days following the premiere date to view the performance. Exceptions to this include live performances (A Christmas Carol) which are only available at the date and time noted, and Leif Ove Andnes, which is available for 30 days following the premiere.
