Under the visionary direction of French Algerian choreographer Hervé Koubi, 17 extraordinary dancers from around the world unite to defy gravity in Sol Invictus. The dancers, who the New Yorker raves “could be mistaken for gods,” blend contemporary dance, the raw athleticism of hip-hop, and the precision of martial arts, creating a visual language like no other. As the dancers hurl themselves with hypnotic speed through the air in high-flying arcs and spins, they come to embody Koubi’s profound message: that despite the fractures of the world, community is humanity’s saving grace. Sol Invictus is propelled by a driving, cinematic score featuring compositions by Mikael Karlsson and Maxime Bodson, woven together with the iconic minimalism of Steve Reich.
