The Danes are back! Celebrated for its uncanny ensemble chemistry and profound interpretive insight, the Danish String Quartet has charmed Berkeley audiences with a seductive blend of cherished masterpieces and contemporary chamber works. This season, the quartet plays Berkeley native Gabriella Smith’s grooving, dynamic Carrot Revolution; Shostakovich’s fourteenth quartet, which centers the cello as soloist; and Beethoven’s dramatic, moving late-period Opus 131 quartet.
“They could be grounded in their tone or mystical. They allowed time to stand still, and they could assume the pose of excitingly aggressive rockers. They did it all”—Los Angeles Times
