A protégé of both Igor Levit and Paul Lewis, 24-year-old pianist Lukas Sternath has burst onto the international concert stage following a stream of high-profile competition awards. As a boy chorister, Sternath toured the world with the esteemed Vienna Boys Choir; since then, he has gone on to perform with leading European orchestras, making his debut with the Vienna Philharmonic during the 2025–26 season. His Cal Performances program features the second suite from Liszt’s extraordinary Années de pèlerinage, which includes Liszt’s famous Petrarch Sonnets and his Dante Sonata; a beguiling selection of Schubert songs arranged by Liszt; and Schubert’s epic, restless Wanderer Fantasy.
