Revered for her unmatched sensitivity and deep musical insight, and performing today at the height of her considerable powers, pianist Mitsuko Uchida returns to Berkeley in a solo recital of masterworks by composers with whom she has been closely associated over decades of performances and recordings. She was named Musical America’s Artist of the Year in 2022 and has been a vital part of the leadership of the Marlboro Music Festival for more than 20 years. Additionally, her 2022 recording of Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations was nominated for a Grammy Award and won the Gramophone Piano Award. Uchida’s program explores a kaleidoscope of sentiment and character, from Haydn’s inventive Variations in F minor, to a playful Mozart rondo, to Schubert’s transcendent late-period Sonata in A major.
“She captivates both the ear and the emotions with one exquisitely turned phrase after another.”—The Standard, UK
